SHELTON WEATHER UPDATE: Freezing rain, sleet, freezing drizzle
There is some light rain falling in Shelton as more people begin to venture out after an early morning snowstorm left 5 to 7 inches of snow in Shelton.
As of 3:45 p.m., it is 28 degrees in Shelton with cloudy skies.
The biggest issue with driving right now in Shelton is piles of snow in the road, many at intersections or where driveways meet a road. State and city plows as well as private contractors continue to clear roads and driveways, and over time the number of piles is being reduced.
More sleet is expected
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast for late this afternoon calls for freezing rain and sleet, with a high temperature around 31 degrees.
A few inches of sleet could come down before it changes to freezing drizzle, the NWS said. Any precipitation should end by 9 p.m.
Tree limbs and power lines
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the region through 6 p.m.
“Travel will remain extremely hazardous due to the intermittent freezing rain on top of earlier significant snow and ice accumulations,” the NWS said.
“The weight of the snow and ice could knock down tree limbs and power lines. Snow and ice falling off trees, wires and buildings could also be hazardous,” the NWS added.
Temperatures to drop tonight
Tonight’s low should be 17 degrees, which means road surfaces could be very slick tonight due to the freezing of slush and water.
Thursday should be mostly sunny with a high of 26 degrees. More snow is possible in Shelton on Sunday and Monday, according to the NWS.
