Saturday: Rock opera ‘Tommy’ comes to local stage for one-night only
Bridgeport Theatre Company (BTC) will present a concert version of the rock opera “Tommy” by The Who on Saturday April 5 at 8 p.m.
The one-night-only performance will include a live band, vocalists, light show, and video projections and will take place at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill St., Bridgeport.
Eli Newsom, BTC musical and artistic director, said the performance “will allow audiences to see company members show off their rock-and-roll chops. Seeing that ‘Tommy’ went on to become an award-winning Broadway musical, we thought it a perfect fit for our BTC Rocks format, which features on onstage band and a rock-concert style presentation.”
Seventeen performers from recent BTC productions will join a band on stage for the production.
‘Deaf, dumb and blind boy’
“Tommy,” based one the 1969 album by English rock band The Who, tells a story about a “deaf, dumb and blind boy” and features songs such as “Pinball Wizard” and “Acid Queen.”

The rock opera was performed on Broadway from 1993 to 1995.
‘Tommy’ was also made into a separate 1975 film starring Elton John, Roger Daltrey of The Who, Jack Nicholson and other high-profile actors and musicians.
Tickets are $23 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. Sodas and snacks will be available for purchase at the Downtown Cabaret, and people are encouraged to bring their own picnics for the cabaret-style seating.
