Schools to dismiss early due to weather
UPDATE 9 a.m. Thursday — Shelton Public Schools will be dismissing students early, due to weather conditions. There will be no after school activities.
ORIGINAL story — Shelton schools are on for today, Jan. 2, the first day back after winter vacation.
"Shelton Public Schools will open on time this morning," Supt. Freeman Burr said in a tweet this morning. "A decision re: Early Dismissal will be made later based on updated weather reports."
The SHS Boys Swim meet at Fairfield Prep today is postponed and rescheduled for Jan. 13.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning starting at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. to Friday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m.
Snow is likely to start tonight around 1 a.m. with a total accumulation of around 1 inch.
Thursday’s forecast calls for snow with a total accumulation of 1 to 2 inches.
Thursday night the temperature will drop with wind chill values as low as -10 degrees. Snow accumulation is between 4 to 8 inches.
Snow will continue into Friday morning and taper off by noon with less than an inch accumulation.
Temperatures are to drop as low as 9-degrees but blustery wind is going to be between 18 to 22 MPH
