SHELTON — City schools will open again after Labor Day, according to the 2022-23 calendar approved by the Board of Education Wednesday.

Schools will open Tuesday, Sept. 6, with the tentative last day set for June 15. The calendar includes nine days off during the school year. The holiday recess will run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2; winter recess will be Feb. 17 and 20; and spring recess runs from April 10 to 14.

The district will have days off for Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 26); Yom Kippur (Oct. 5); Columbus Day (Oct. 10); Election Day (Nov. 8); Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 16); Good Friday (April 7); and Memorial Day (May 29).

There are eight planned professional development days. The first two professional development days will be Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, prior to the start of the school year. The day off for Election Day, Nov. 8, will also be used for professional development.

The remaining professional development days will be held on early dismissal days — Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and 18, and March 3, 10, 17 and 24.
