Incumbent State Rep. Ben McGorty is running unopposed to represent the 122th District, which covers parts of Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull.

McGorty, 58, a Republican, is seeking his fifth consecutive term.

McGorty is a lieutenant and deputy fire marshal for the Stratford Fire Department and a realtor for Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

Hearst Connecticut Media asked the candidate what he considered the top issues in his district and what he would do about them. Here are his responses:

Ben McGorty

Town of residence: Shelton

Education: College Graduate

Political/civic experience: State Representative for the 122nd district

Top two issues: The two most important issues that I will continue to fight for is the elimination of the state income tax on retirement pensions and stop the unfunded mandates to our municipalities that would allow towns keep their property taxes low and make Connecticut an affordable place to live for all.
