A Shelton Police Department member has been recognized for his more than three decades of service with the agency.

Sgt. John F. Youd was honored for his 37 years with the department during a recent promotions and recognition ceremony.

Youd, a lifelong Shelton resident, became a supernumerary officer in 1978 with the department. He was hired as a patrolman in 1980.

Youd has been a member of the Shelton SWAT team and a former supervisor of the detective bureau. He is currently assigned to patrol, serving as senior patrol supervisor.

During the March 26 police promotion and recognition ceremony, city Emergency Management Director Michael Maglione served as master of ceremonies. Mayor Mark Lauretti and Police Chief Joel Hurliman also spoke at the event.

There was an honor guard salute and Francesca Scarpa from Center Stage Theatre sang the National Anthem and God Bless America.

Three department members were honored for 30 or more years of service, commendations were awarded for extraordinary actions, and eight members were promoted.
