SHELTON — City leaders are taking to social media to better keep residents informed of local happenings.

Mayor Mark Lauretti said the city of Shelton Facebook page, created last month, is designed to keep the community updated on everything, from new business openings to changes in trash pickup schedules to weather-related closings.

Lauretti said the page is meant as a “point of contact” for the city.

He also expects upcoming events to be promoted.

“This is also a chance to correct the malcontents out there ... the ones who say things that are not factually true because they can,” Lauretti said. “We want to get the facts out there. There are an awful lot of positive things going on in Shelton. It is not all doom and gloom, and we are going after that.”
