As of about 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, an older male driver had just been removed from the scene on a stretcher and placed in an ambulance. He appeared to be responsive and didn’t appear to have any injuries related to the accident.
A medical emergency involving the driver could have been a factor.
The man was apparently the driver of the vehicle, a green-colored Subaru station wagon. The vehicle had some minor damage visible on the outside, especially to the front end.
At least six emergency vehicles were on the scene, including Shelton police and Echo Hose EMS.
Traffic was still flowing on Bridgeport Avenue by the scene, but access to the Duchess was temporarily blocked. The Duchess is at 883 Bridgeport Ave.
The vehicle came to a stop in the driveway, which is on an incline, between the road and the parking lot. While investigating the accident, emergency personnel appeared to be pointing up toward the parking lot, which may have been the direction the elderly driver was coming before his vehicle came to a stop.
