Shelton fire log: Accidents, open burnings, electrical hazards keep fire crews busy

The Shelton Fire Department responded to the following calls this past week.

Monday, May 23

At 8:37 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3, Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a fire alarm activated at the Hilton Garden Inn, 25 Old Stratford Road. There was no fire.

At 3:49 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine to assist the Derby FD with smoke in the building at the Aldi’s Supermarket, 72 Pershing Drive.

At 4:15 p.m., the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine to clean up fluids spilled from a bus on Leavenworth Road.

At 7:12 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to smoke in an apartment on Riverside Drive. Smoke from cooking caused the incident.

Tuesday, May 24

At 9:20 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at a Heather Ridge address.

At 12:06 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to ADT Offices, 70 Ivy Brook Road, for strong smell of chlorine in the building. Firefighters found a chlorine tablet had been left in a bathroom which caused the odor.

At 2:03 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine to a motor vehicle accident in front of a building on the 800 block of Bridgeport Avenue.

At 5:04 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a fire alarm activated at the Helen DeVaux Housing Complex, 91 Howe Ave. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm.

At 9:44 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3, Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with three engines and a ladder truck to the Mark Apartments, 7 Acadia Lane, for an odor of gas and electrical odor in a unit.

Wednesday, May 25

At 6:08 a.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4, Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to a fire alarm activated at a Seneca Road address. There was no fire.

At 12:26 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine to a Ten Coat Lane address for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire.

At 8:23 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to a power line down on Hurd Road.

Thursday, May 26

At 2:50 p.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to motor vehicle accident on River Road at Long Hill Avenue.

At 6:46 p.m., the White Hills Co. No. 5 and the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to a Thoreau Drive address for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm.

Friday, May 27

At 6:56 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to assist EMS at a Navajo Loop address.

At 3:45 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine to a fire alarm activated at a Hillside Avenue address. There was no fire.

At 4:35 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine to a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at a Huntington Street address.

Saturday, May 28

At 10:36 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3, White Hills Co. No. 5 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to an Eagle Drive address for a smoke investigation inside. A furnace backfire was the cause.

At 3 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H &L Co. No. 1 responded with two engines and a rescue truck to a Budd Circle address for an odor of gas in the house.

At 3:13 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a Weybossett Street address for an electrical hazard.

At 3:30 p.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with two engines, a rescue truck and a ladder truck to a motor vehicle accident on River Road near Quail Court.

At 4:30 p.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with two engines, a rescue truck and a ladder truck to a tree on wires on River Road near Quail Court.

At 5:44 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to a motor vehicle accident on South Constitution Boulevard.

At 6:23 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with a rescue truck to assist EMS on Route 8 southbound near Exit 11.

Sunday, May 29

At 3:07 a.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with a unit to a public service call at an Asbury Ridge address.

At 3:22 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with a rescue truck to a fire alarm activated at a building on the 400 block of Howe Avenue. There was no fire.

At 4:34 p.m., the Echo Hoose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with a rescue truck and a utility truck to Wooster Island on the Housatonic River to assist police and EMS.

At 8:14 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with two engines and a utility truck to a motor vehicle accident on Bridgeport Avenue at Huntington Street.

Monday, May 30

At 11:15 a.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine to an open burning at a Lynne Terrace address.

At 9:42 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a Lucille Drive address for an odor of propane outside.
