Shelton fire log: Crews respond to odor of gas at Marketplace Plaza, dump truck rollover on Route 8

The Shelton Fire Department responded to the following calls this past week.

Monday, Nov. 15

At 8:56 a.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to a motor vehicle accident, vehicle off the road and struck a house, at the 300 block of River Road.

At 4:12 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with two engines and a ladder truck to a fire alarm activation at a Walnut Tree Hill Road address. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm.

At 9:57 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 5 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to TJ Maxx, 865 Bridgeport Ave., for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire.

At 10:25 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine to assist police with a disabled vehicle on Bridgeport Avenue and Access Road.

Wednesday, Nov. 17

On 11/17/21 at 7:59 pm the Echo Hose H & L Co. #1, Pine Rock Park Co. #4 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded with three engines and a rescue truck to a motor vehicle fire at the Oak Ridge Waste and Recycling Plant, 90 Oliver Terrace.

Thursday, Nov. 18

At 6:45 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine to a motor vehicle accident on Shelton Avenue at Aspetuck Trail.

At 6:47 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded to Isinglass Road for a utility pole on fire.

At 8:57 a.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1, Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 and the Huntington Co. No. 3 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to an odor of natural gas in the building at the Marketplace Plaza, 395 Bridgeport Ave. Firefighters checked numerous occupancies in the plaza and found the gas odor was from the kitchen stoves in Taco Co.

At 10:14 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a rescue truck on Commerce Drive.

At 11:59 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine to an Applewood Drive address for a fire alarm activation.

Friday, Nov. 19

At 7:45 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to a motor vehicle accident on Route 8 northbound between exits 12 and 13. Firefighters worked to free a person trapped in a large dump truck that had rolled over onto its side.

At 9:17 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with a unit to Kneen Street for an unknown alarm sounding.

At 9:32 p.m., the White Hills Co. No. 5, Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a Stendahl Drive address for smoke in the house. Food from cooking was the cause.

Saturday, Nov. 20

At 6:23 a.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with two engines to Papere Ridge for a carbon monoxide alarm activation.

At 12:16 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3, Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1, Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with three engines and a ladder truck to a fire alarm activated at the BrightView Shelton Complex, 30 Beard Saw Mill Road. There was no fire.

At 4:54 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with two engines to a fire alarm activated at an office building at 1000 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire.

At 8:46 p.m., the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 and the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to a Golec Avenue address for an odor investigation.

Sunday, Nov. 21

At 10:14 a.m., the Pine Rock Park Co. No. 4 responded with an engine to a diesel fuel leak on Algonkin Road.

At 10:41 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a ladder truck to a fire alarm activated at the Hilton Garden Inn, 25 Old Stratford Road. There was no fire.

Monday, Nov. 22

At 1:27 a.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose H & L Co. No. 1 responded with an engine and a rescue truck to a motor vehicle accident on Route 8 northbound between exits 12 and 13.
