SHELTON — A Bridgeport man was killed late Saturday in a shooting, police said.

Officers were sent to the Marriott Residence Inn on Bridgeport Avenue around 11:33 p.m. on reports that shots had been fired at the hotel, police said.

When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Ivan Whyte, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police had yet to identify the victim publicly as of Sunday morning.

Shelton detectives are working with the state police Major Crime Squad to investigate the killing. Officials from the Milford State’s Attorney’s Office also responded to assist with the investigation.

According to police officials, the scene has been cleared at the Marriott Residence Inn just before 11 a.m., but police are still actively investigating the incident. Notification was made to the family and officials will be releasing the name of the victim on Sunday.

They intend to release additional information about the shooting on Monday.
