Shelton police searching for suspect in People’s Bank robbery

SHELTON — Police are searching for the suspect in Tuesday’s robbery of the People’s Bank in the Stop and Shop at 898 Bridgeport Ave.

Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said a man entered the bank area about 12:10 p.m. and demanded cash from the female teller, then exited the store and fled in a vehicle.

Bango said the vehicle appears to be an older model white Nissan Sentra which had no registration plates and appears to have damage to the rear passenger side.

The man is described as a heavy-set white male, approximately 6 feet tall in his 50s to early 60s, according to Bango. The man is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with a red baseball cap and black mask, he added.

Anyone who recognizes this man or has any information regarding this robbery is urged to contact the Shelton Police Department at 203-924-1544. All calls will be kept confidential.

The Connecticut Bankers Reward Association is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the individual responsible for the bank robbery.
