Last but not least: Shelton student final graduate in Mount procession

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — At the very end of a long line of Mount Saint Mary College graduates on May 21 was nursing major Hope Yaworowski.

Yaworowski, a familiar face on the Mount’s Dean’s List, was the last in the long procession of grads as they made their way from Aquinas Hall to the Dominican Center Field. More than 500 degree recipients were honored at the annual Commencement ceremony.

Had it not been for Anthony Valenti of Florida, N.Y., who was accidentally separated from his fellow Math majors and placed at the back of the line, Yoworowski would also have been the final grad to receive her diploma from Dr. Jason N. Adsit, president of the college.

The day before, May 20, the college honored nearly 80 graduates of its prestigious Nursing program at a pinning ceremony. As per tradition, the pins were presented to the graduates by chosen family members and friends. Thanks to alphabetical order, Yaworowski was again at the end of the procession and the last one to be recognized. But that didn’t dampen her enthusiasm as she received her pin from her mother and father.

“Thank you to my parents and family for always supporting me,” she said. “You taught me that hard work always pays off and pushed me to achieve my goals.”
