Shelton state reps join tour of Sikorsky Aircraft plant
State Reps. Jason Perillo and Ben McGorty of Shelton recently took part in a two-hour tour of the Sikorsky Aircraft facilities in Stratford.
The two local Republicans joined other regional lawmakers on the tour, where they were shown the workings of the plant.
Perillo voted last session for the Connecticut Aerospace Reinvestment Act last session, aimed at re-inforcing Connecticut as a leader in the aerospace industry and retaining and creating jobs.
McGorty, who was elected following the passage of the measure, has expressed support for the program
Many Shelton residents work at plant
More than 800 Shelton residents are employees of United Technologies, which includes Sikorsky, and over 60 Shelton companies are suppliers to the company.
“Sikorsky is an incredibly important part of the fabric of the region’s communities,” Perillo said. “Not just as major employer and a leader in aerospace manufacturing, but also for their remarkable corporate citizenship.”
McGorty said he appreciated “being able to tour their impressive facilities and see why they are the backbone of our region’s manufacturing base.”
United Technologies, which also includes Pratt & Whitney, employs 22,200 workers in Connecticut.
