State Sen. Kevin C. Kelly, who represents Shelton, will be among the panelists at an upcoming forum on the federal Affordable Care Act and Connecticut Healthcare Exchange.

The event, open to the public, will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 8-9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart University’s William Pitt Center Board Room, second floor, 5151 Park Ave., Fairfield.

Individuals, senior citizens and small business owners can attend to learn more about how the newly implemented health insurance regulations will impact them and their businesses.

“It is extremely important to understand what these new healthcare programs mean for each citizen here in Connecticut,” said Kelly, a Republican in his second term. “There will be an impact on everyone — from the self-insured to senior citizens to small businesses.”

Kelly is a ranking member of the state Legislature’s Aging and Insurance committees.

Answering people’s questions

The panel discussion will be moderated by state Rep. Tony Hwang, a member of the Legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee. Hwang, a Republican, represents parts of Fairfield and Trumbull.

Hwang said the forum should help answer some of people’s questions on the new federal law.

“As I talk to people in the district, I am continually getting questions about how healthcare insurance changes are impacting their lives and wonder how the new federal law will affect their quality and access to care,” he said.
