SHELTON — More than 400 people crowded the downtown Friday for Celebrate Shelton’s eighth annual Community Tree Lighting.

The event, held at the Rotary Pavilion at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Shelton, offered people some hot cocoa, cookies horse-drawn carriage rides and a visit rom Santa himself. People even got a chance to shop for handmade items from artisans and Boy Scouts of America Housatonic Council troops.

The night featured performances by Valley Shakespeare Festival and Center Stage Theatre and live music with Benny Mikula next to the first-ever community bonfire.
