Multiple fire vehicles and at least one ambulance went to the downtown structure so personnel could look into the situation, at about 7:30 p.m.

“We’re checking now but haven’t smelled anything,” an emergency worker said at the scene.

Shelton Fire Chief Fran Jones later said firefighters responded to a report of a gas small inside the large apartment complex on the Housatonic River.

“No hazard was found,” said Jones, noting firefighters also checked gas meters in the structure for any irregularities.

The 250-unit Shelton Avalon opened in March 13.
