Snowfall and winds will increase; Blizzard Warning issued for adjacent towns

The National Weather Service (NWS) has elevated the alert for Shelton and southern Fairfield County to a Winter Weather Advisory, while issuing a Blizzard Warning for nearby southern New Haven County.

Snow accumulations should still be in the 3 to 7 inches for Shelton, with sustained winds up to 35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph.

The snow will pick up in intensity tonight and continue until the early afternoon on Sunday.

"Considerable blowing and drifting snow, with near-blizzard conditions, from late tonight through Sunday morning as winds increase," the NWS said of Shelton. The weather service also warned of possible down power lines and tree limbs.

A Blizzard Warning means limited visibility is expected for hours, and the NWS is warning of "whiteout conditions" and "dangerous travel conditions" after midnight.
