State Police make DUI arrests, investigate two fatal accidents

As of 7 a.m. on Monday, Connecticut State Police troopers had made 52 drunk driving arrests since early Friday over the Memorial Day weekend.

That’s according to statistics released by the State Police on the law enforcement agency’s holiday weekend enforcement efforts.

Troopers continue to patrol the state’s highways and roads, utilizing both traditional and non-traditional patrol cars.

The weekend enforcement project started at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 22 and will run through 11:59 p.m. tonight, Memorial Day.

Troopers have focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols have been in place over the weekend.

The following State Police statistics cover the period from Friday at 12:01 a.m. through Memorial Day at 7 a.m.:

Driving under the influence (DUI) arrests — 52

Speeding citations— 993

Seatbelt violation citations —1,156

Other hazardous moving violation citations — 474
