WATCH: Himes appears on CNN to discuss Paris terror acts
Congressman Jim Himes, who represents most of Shelton, has been reappointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The committee oversees the budget and activities of the 17 intelligence agencies of the United States.
Earlier this week, Himes appeared on CNN’s “New Day” morning news show to discuss the latest developments following the terrorist attacks in Paris. Click below to watch the interview:
The Intelligence Committee reappointment was made by Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi, who praised Himes for his “ thoughtfulness and professionalism. The strength of his experience will continue to be a valued resource in the new Congress.”
‘We must remain vigilant against threats’
Himes, a fourth-term Democrat, said he is honored by the reappointed and looks forward to fulfilling his responsibilities.
“The committee has one of the hardest and most important responsibilities in Congress — protecting our people and overseeing America’s intelligence operations,” Himes said.
“We must remain vigilant against threats to America, but in doing so we must also ensure our nation's intelligence programs strike the right balance between protecting our security and the privacy and civil liberties of our citizens,” he said.
“I am eager to continue working with members of both parties on the Committee, which has long been a bastion of bipartisanship, to achieve that balance and build a safer and more secure nation,” Himes added.
Shelton is in two congressional districts
