The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Special Weather Statement at 9:45 p.m. on Monday to warn of “multiple bands of heavy snow” heading toward Fairfield and New Haven counties.

The NWS said the bands could bring “heavy snow” to the area during the next hour or so. “Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are expected with the snow,” it said, warning against travel due to the current Blizzard Warning.

The NWS has said from 2 to 3 feet of snow could fall in Shelton by the time the storm ends on very late Tuesday, with the most intense snowfall expected late tonight into Tuesday morning. Strong wind gusts also are expected.
