Anglers are rallying around a captain, and the Long Island Sound is about the host the Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth.

The 34th Annual WICC600 Port Jeff Ferry Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth is the weekend of August 27-28 on the Long Island Sound, and we’ll talk with director Chris Mancini on Yankee Fisherman.
With guaranteed cash prizes exceeding $44,000, this year’s tournament offers a grand prize of $25,000 for the heaviest bluefish, $10,000 for second place, $2,500 for third, $500 each for fourth and fifth places and $200 each for the next 10 heaviest catches. There is also a Special Port Prize of $200 for the heaviest fish caught at each weigh station.

Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
