SHELTON — One of the city's newest aldermen has announced she is stepping down.

Michele Bialek, a Democrat representing Ward 2, this week informed the Democratic Town Committee and Board of Aldermen that she is resigning her position. Bialek earned election in 2021 with 1,385 votes, 143 votes more than her nearest competitor, Republican Eric McPherson.

She did not return messages seeking comment.

“Unfortunately, Alderwoman Bialek resigned from the Shelton Board of Aldermen on Tuesday,” DTC Chair Kevin Kosty said. “It is a loss for Shelton to no longer have her insight on the board.”

Kosty said he did not know why Bialek came to her decision.

“She has asked for privacy,” Kosty said. “So I also ask everyone to respect it.”

Board of Aldermen President John Anglace, Jr., confirmed he received Bialek’s resignation. He said the DTC has 45 days to submit a replacement's name to fill the seat.

Kosty said, per the Shelton City Charter, the Democratic Town Committee must submit a candidate to the Board of Aldermen. The DTC is holding its monthly meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m., and the Ward 2 members will meet in advance of the regular meeting to discuss who to appoint as a replacement.
