SHELTON — Signs are pointing to HomeGoods coming to the city.

A company spokesperson this week said that HomeGoods has not announced a new store for Shelton, but the Planning and Zoning Commission, at its meeting Wednesday, approved signage and exterior design plans that say otherwise.

The approvals were given for vacant space in Shelton Square, formerly home to Bed, Bath and Beyond, at 862 Bridgeport Ave.

“I’m happy to see HomeGoods, if they come,” commissioner Elaine Matto said.

The signage presented to the commission says "HomeGoods." An architectural firm also offered details about updating the façade to mirror that of HomeGoods stores.

“HomeGoods has not announced a new store for Shelton at this time,” Arielle Abramek, marketing specialist with HomeGoods, told Hearst Connecticut Media this week.

Shelton’s Bed, Bath and Beyond store was among dozens of the chain's locations to close nationwide in 2020.

HomeGoods, a chain of home furnishing stores headquartered in Framingham, Mass., sells furniture, linens, cooking products, art and other home accessories. HomeGoods is owned by TJX Companies, and is a sister company to T.J. Maxx, Sierra Trading Post, and Marshalls.
