WINSTED — A person was killed in a two-car crash at a Main Street intersection in Winsted on Tuesday night, according to a police dispatcher.

The crash was reported at the intersection of Main Street, or Route 44, and Coe Street around 7:32 p.m., a dispatch supervisor who spoke with Hearst Connecticut Media said. Local and surrounding agencies responded to the scene, including the Winsted Fire Department, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department and the critical care helicopter service LifeStar. 

Three people trapped as a result of the crash had been extricated by first responders as of around 8:20 p.m., according to the dispatch supervisor. One was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Following the crash, Route 44 was closed for investigation, the dispatch supervisor said.
