SHELTON \u2014 Connecticut State Police are investigating the circumstances that led to a double-fatal rollover crash off Route 8 that officials say is connected to a Bridgeport police investigation. \u201cThere exists the possibility that this incident is connected to a police investigation in Bridgeport,\u201d said Brian Foley, aide to the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner James Rovella. \u201cOnce we determined that, we immediately contacted the State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s office. We also are in contact with the Bridgeport Police Department and they are fully cooperating with the investigation.\u201d Scott Appleby, Bridgeport\u2019s director of emergency communications and emergency management, said the police department is now aware of the crash and it is \u201crelated to an incident in Bridgeport.\u201d He reiterated that the department is cooperating with the state police investigation. The individuals were pronounced dead Thursday after first responders found them in a 2002 Honda Accord, which was on its roof on the right side of the on-ramp for Exit 12 on Route 8 north in Shelton, state police said. The state\u2019s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the autopsies of both victims were completed Friday. The cause of death for both victims was \u201cblunt injury,\u201d with the manner a motor vehicle collision, the office said. Troopers responded to the area around 11:30 a.m. Thursday on an initial report of a \u201csuspicious incident,\u201d state police said Thursday. State police later said the crash likely happened before Thursday. Authorities continue to work to identify the two individuals found in the crash, and the owner of the vehicle.
