State Police have identified the person killed in a one-vehicle accident on Saturday morning on Route 8 in Shelton. Thomas Sulier, 31, of 143 Hill St. Ext., Naugatuck, was the victim. The accident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. on Route 8 northbound just before Exit 13 (Constitution Boulevard South\/Bridgeport Avenue). Sulier was driving a 1997 Buick Park Avenue and traveling north on Route 8 at the time of the accident. "For reasons unknown at this time, [his vehicle] traveled off the roadway into the grass\/tree-lined median area," where it collided with trees, according to the State Police accident report. Sulier was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the car's only occupant. The vehicle's front airbag deployed and he was wearing his seatbelt, according to the accident report. Responding to the scene Shelton police, fire and EMS responded to the scene as well as the State Police. "Squad 1 arrived finding a car into a tree with heavy entrapment," stated a posting by Shelton's Echo Hose Fire, referring to its personnel. "This incident is unfortunately the third accident involving a fatality this month," the Echo Hose Fire posting continued. "Our thoughts go out to the victim's family." The other recent fatal accidents in Shelton occurred on Route 8 (in the same vicinity) and Route 110 (Howe Avenue\/Leavenworth Road, near Indian Well State Park). The April 25 accident involving the Naugatuck man is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Benjamin Kores with State Police Troop I at 203-393-4200.
