UPDATE 5:52 a.m. \u2014 Some flooding is coming into The Maples neighborhood in Shelton this morning, due to the heavy rainfall that has hit the area. According to the National Weather Service, there is minor flooding at the Stevenson Dam in Monroe, which controls water flow that comes to the area, is at a minor flood level stage as of 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Minor flooding is expected at 11 feet at the dam, and it is expected to remain at 13.2 feet throughout the day today, trickling down as the rain is expected to move from the area. More weather news Up to 4 inches of rain could fall on Shelton by the time the current storm moves away sometime on Thursday. This has led the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a Flood Watch for Fairfield and New Haven counties, as well as most other parts of the state, through noon on Thursday. The rain \u201cwill be heavy at times through tonight, before tapering off by late Thursday morning,\u201d according to the NWS. Street and river flooding possible The NWS said from 3 to 4 inches of rain will fall, \u201cwith locally higher amounts \u2014 increasing the threat of significant urban, low lying and poor drainage flooding as well as flooding of small streams and rivers.\u201d Significant ponding already is occurring in many locations in Shelton. Some of the rain tonight could come in the form of a thunderstorm, with the NWS saying the chance of continued precipitation being 100%. The low tonight in Shelton should be 45 degrees, which also is the current temperature in Shelton as of 7 p.m. Will get warmer in coming days Showers should continue on Thursday morning, perhaps coming to an end in the early afternoon, the NWS said. More thunderstorms are possible on Thursday morning. The good news is that it will be much warmer on Thursday, with a high around 69 degrees, and stay warm and mostly dry for the weekend. The NWS forecast for Shelton in the coming days is: Friday:\u00a0 Mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers and a daytime high of 66 degrees. A nighttime low of 46 degrees. Saturday:\u00a0 Mostly sunny, with a high near 63 degrees. Overnight low of 47 degrees. Sunday:\u00a0 Partly sunny with a chance of showers and a high of 65 degrees. An overnight low of 42 degrees.
