SHELTON — A city man was charged Tuesday for reporting he was robbed at gunpoint last month when it didn’t happen, police said. David Manning, 34, was charged with falsely reporting a theft of a motor vehicle and interfering with an officer. Detective Richard Bango said Manning’s arrest stems from a report he made to the Shelton Police on March 15, when he stated he was robbed at gun point by two men on Myrtle Street. Manning said the men stole his vehicle and his cellphone during the robbery, Bango said. Bango said a Detective Bureau investigation revealed the vehicle was in an accident in Bridgeport the day before and the driver fled the scene. It was not, in fact, stolen, police said. Manning was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in Milford Superior Court on May 25.
