Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Shelton and Derby on Monday for the annual Memorial Day parade. (Photos by Brad Durrell) \u201cIt\u2019s a nice event,\u201d said Joe DeFilippo of Shelton, who was watching the parade from a lawn chair on Coram Avenue. \u201cI get to see some of my old friends here,\u201d said DeFilippo, who served in the Navy during World War II. He saw action in the Pacific arena, making six landings during the war in the 1940s. Lee Post of Shelton was watching the proceedings from Howe Avenue, near Bridge Street, with his son Dylan. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to see all the people here,\u201d said Post, who has come to the parade for 18 years, when he moved to the city from elsewhere in Fairfield County. \u201cMy favorite part is the candy,\u201d said an excited Dylan, who kept busy waving a small American flag as the marchers went by.
