David Neary, a Bridgeport police officer who lives in Shelton, was honored at the Special Olympics Connecticut Hall of Fame Dinner: Celebrating 45 Years of Memories, on March 20. The annual Hall of Fame event honors extraordinary athletes, volunteers and supporters who demonstrate leadership, spirit and selflessness, inspire joy through sport, and promote inclusion and respect for individuals of all abilities. The dinner took place at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Plantsville. Receives Outstanding Volunteer Award Neary received the Outstanding Volunteer Award in recognition of his support of Special Olympics Connecticut. Neary has supported Special Olympics as a member of the Bridgeport Police Department for more than 10 years. In 2012, he was instrumental in sustaining the Bridgeport Police Department\u2019s partnership with Special Olympics. Coordinates fund-raising, awareness events Neary works with other officers in his department to organize volunteer and fund-raising initiatives that benefit Special Olympic athletes. He has taken a leadership role in coordinating the Bridgeport Police Department\u2019s participation in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run and numerous Tip-A-Cop and Cop-on-Top fund-raising events. He also has presented medals to athletes at their competitions. Neary has been a Bridgeport police officer for more than 15 years.
