New food market opens Dec. 11 in the Valley

The new ALDI grocery store will open Thursday, Dec. 11 in Derby.

To celebrate the new location at 72 Pershing Drive, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on Dec. 11 that is open to the public.

Guests that day can tour the store, sample ALDI-exclusive brand products, shop for grocery items, and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a grand prize of $1,000 in ALDI gift certificates.

Customers can expect to find more than 1,300 of the most commonly purchased items sold under ALDI-exclusive brands, which the company claims are up to 50% less than traditional supermarkets.

“As important as price is, the only way to attract and keep shoppers is to have quality products,” said Bruce Persohn, local division vice president for ALDI.

Chain has 1,300-plus stores

ALDI has more than 1,300 stores in 32 states, and now opens about 80 new stores a year. The German-owned company uses a smaller store footprint and open carton displays.

The Derby store will feature high ceilings and was built with environmentally-friendly building materials, such as recycled materials and energy-saving refrigeration and light bulbs, according to an ALDI press release.

The new store will be open from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday to Saturday, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday. It will accept cash, debit and EBT/Quest cards.
