Parent company of Shelton's natural gas provider changes its name
The parent company of Yankee Gas, the natural gas provider for Shelton, has changed its name.
As of Feb. 2, Northeast Utilities will now be known as Eversource Energy. It is the largest energy delivery company in New England, serving 3.6 million electricity and natural gas customers in the region.
All of the company’s subsidiaries will adopt and operate under the Eversource name. In addition to the Yankee Gas Services Co., in Connecticut this includes Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P). Shelton is served by the United Illuminating Co. and not CL&P.
The former Northeast Utilities also operates NSTAR Electric and NSTAR Gas in Massachusetts, Public Service Co. of New Hampshire, and Western Massachusetts Electric Co., all of which will adopt the Eversource name as well.
“Energy is what brings us all together, and Eversource reflects the one-company focus we have been driving for the last few years,” said Tom May, chairman, president and CEO of Eversource Energy.
Customers will receive more information regarding the re-branding initiative after the launch. As part of the change, Eversource plans to trade on the NYSE under the ticker symbol ES.
