Shelton-based Energizer recognized for successful Valley United Way campaign

A Shelton-based company received the Valley United Way’s No. 1 Overall Campaign Award for raising more than $170,000 for the nonprofit agency’s campaign.

The award went to Energizer Personal Care, which is a division of Energizer Holdings, a global brand of consumer products that includes batteries, shaving accessories and suntan lotion. Energizer Personal Care is located on Research Drive in Shelton.

The award was presented at the Valley United Way’s 46th annual meeting and recognition dinner on April 29 at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby.

The more than 200 people in attendance participated in a networking reception, meal, business meeting and awards ceremony.

Community volunteer is guest of honor

The evening’s guest of honor was Joe Andreana, who received the 44th Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award for his countless hours of volunteer service to the community,

Andreana has been involved at Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, Griffin Health Services, Matthies Foundation, the town of Oxford, and United Methodist Frontier Foundation as well as Valley United Way.

Will have a new board chairman

At the conclusion of the presentation, Valley United Way officials offered a farewell to current board Chairman Fred Ortoli. Officials said “a very special thank you goes to Fred for his dedication and years of service.”

The new leader of the board of directors will be Janice Sheehy of Webster Bank. In her role, Sheehy will work with returning campaign Chairman Tom Steeves of American IT Solutions on the United Way’s 2014-15 campaign.

The names of two new board members were announced at the meeting — Ruth Parkins of Iroquois Pipeline Operating Co. and Deborah McGuigan of Prudential Annuities.

Officials offer thanks

“Valley United Way would not be able to do the work that we do and support our partner agencies without the help of our donors, corporate partners and volunteers,” United Way officials said.

Sponsors of the meeting and recognition dinner were Basement Systems Inc., Better Packages, and Ion Bank.

Valley United Way is a philanthropic resource for the Valley towns of Shelton, Ansonia, Derby, Oxford and Seymour. The nonprofit agency works to match the needs of the community and the interests of donors to improve the quality of life in the community.
