Shelton company receives U.S. Marine Corps contract
The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded Shelton-based Lex Products Corp. a contract for the design and development of Advanced Mobile Electric Power Distribution System (AMEPDIS).
AMEPDIS is an enhanced version of the MEPDIS-R portable electric power distribution system that Lex Products has supplied to all Marine Corps forward operating bases since 2004. AMEPDIS can be considered a “smart” (energy efficient) MEPDIS-R, according to a Lex Products press release.
Will provide 'an improved system'
Joe Birchak, Lex Products senior vice president of business development, said the company is proud to be the sole source for power distribution systems for the U.S. Marine Corps.
“Through this contract award we will provide an improved system [to] meet the challenges of a changing mobile power landscape that will require fuel savings and power grid efficiencies on the battlefield,” Birchak said.
Adds safety and reliability
AMEPDIS will incorporate technology designed to add features such as load prioritization, load shedding and automatic phase balancing. Improvements to the MEPDIS-R line will include fault monitoring and isolation, thereby adding safety and reliability to the system.
By introducing AMEPDIS as a supplement rather than as a replacement system, the Marine Corps will have the flexibility of incorporating a mix of MEPDIS-R and AMEPDIS units in grid configurations that allow complete interconnection, according to the Lex Products release.
