Joseph Laveneziana of Shelton has been named St. Vincent’s 2013 Employee of the Year. He is executive director of facilities, safety and security at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, where he has worked for 24 years.

Laveneziana was recognized not only for his dedication and commitment, but for his extraordinary leadership and reliability during the major storms Sandy and Nemo, according to hospital officials.

Oversees safety and security team

Described as someone with “impeccable moral character” and “the highest levels of integrity” by his colleagues, Laveneziana is charged with the task of keeping patients, visitors and staff safe in an often hectic and demanding environment.

He oversees a sizable safety and security team who must be trained, prepared and primed for any number of security and emergency situations that might arise.

Laveneziana also coordinates campus-wide safety awareness, training and drills to keep all St. Vincent’s employees in step with safety and security protocol.

Hired by hospital in 1989

Laveneziana was hired by St. Vincent’s in 1989 as director of safety and security. As the medical center grew, so did his responsibilities.

By 1992, he was chairman for the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Program and also assumed responsibility for overseeing compliance with safety and environmental care regulations.

He was promoted to his current role as executive director of facilities, safety and security in 2012.

As Employee of the Year, Laveneziana will have the honor of placing the angel on top of the St. Vincent’s Christmas tree for the upcoming holiday season.
