A Shelton resident who owns a Bridgeport flower shop has received the Connecticut Florists Association’s (CFA) annual Marketing Award.

Lisa Fede, owner of Fruits & Flowers, was recognized for her extensive use of social media and promotions to increase her floral sales. In her business, she uses e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest and Linked In.

The CFA also praised Fede for her shop's involvement in donating flowers to many fund-raising events in the greater Bridgeport area. Fruits & Flowers recently was involved with the Roses for Veterans, a Memorial Day event.

Other CFA award winners

The Monroe-based CFA recently gave its highest annual awards, and re-elected two directors. In addition to the award for Fede, these included:

— Connecticut Florist of the Year went to Douglas Carey of the Cromwell, Conn. branch of Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist. Carey was applauded for his 40-year commitment to Connecticut's floral industry, including support for floral education, programs, shows and the CFA.

— CFA Award for Florist Improvement went to Luigi Nuzzolillo of Forget Me Not Flower Shop, North Haven for the substantial renovations and redesign of his facility.

— CFA Community Service Award went to Judy Grabarz, owner of Newtown Florist in Newtown for her handling of flowers for the community and funerals during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings last December.

— Members of CFA re-elected the two directors for two-year terms beginning July 1: Michael Derouin (AAF, AIFD, PFCI, CAFA) of McArdle's Florist & Garden Center in Greenwich, and Jennifer Ford-Chatfield of Fleur de Lys Floral in New Haven.
