30th annual Car Cruise and Food Drive to benefit Spooner House
Heav’nly Donuts will host the very popular Dust-Off Car Cruise on Sunday April 10, from noon to 5 p.m., to collect canned goods and non-perishable food items to benefit the Spooner House in Shelton. Spooner House has the mission of providing food, shelter and support services to people in need. The goal is to over-fill a classic 1948 Crosley station wagon with donated food.
The Dust-Off Cruise will take place at Heav'nly Donuts, 653 New Haven Ave. in Derby, and since this year is the 30th annual car cruise, the plan is collect at least 3,000 total donated food items. Last year the event filled the Crosley wagon with 2,511 food items. This event also provides the perfect reason to bring out your classic car in preparation for the cruising season.
In addition, to expand on the 30 year celebration theme, Heav'nly Donuts will be offering $.30 cent donuts with any drink purchase. Oldies music will also be playing to carry on the theme of the day.
Heav’nly Donuts normally runs the cruises every Sunday afternoon from Mother’s Day until late October. The April Dust-Off Car Cruise kicks off a tradition started four years ago by the Derby Heav'nly Donuts. Cruisers and spectators who come to see all the great cars and motorcycles and who also bring canned goods and non-perishable food items, will be helping some of this year’s hardest hit people.
"Difficult economic times have continued for many of those who are less fortunate in Connecticut, especially with so many services being cut from the state budget," commented Ernie Badas, owner of Heav'nly Donuts. "We are delighted to be able to help Spooner House since they have always been there to provide food, shelter and other support services for people in the lower NaugatuckValley.""
So dust off your rides, come get together with friends, see the vintage cars, listen to oldies music and give the Spooner House a fill-up. The pantries need to be stocked.
In case of inclement weather, the rain date for the Dust-Off Car Cruise to Benefit Spooner House will take place the following Sunday, April 17. For more information call 203-734-4185.
