Actress and singer Linda Lavin to appear locally

Linda Lavin, the Tony Award-winning Broadway actress and Emmy-nominated television star and singer, will take the stage at Sacred Heart University’s Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

Lavin is perhaps best known for playing the title character in the TV sit-com “Alice,” which aired for nine seasons from 1976 to 1985.

She won a Tony Award for Neil Simon’s “Broadway Bound,” and has been nominated for five other Tonys during her stage career.

Lavin’s appearance is part of its American Legends Series, where she will participate in an “Actors Studio”-type interview on stage with Jerry Goehring, Edgerton Center executive director.

The presentation also will include video clips of Lavin’s stage, television and film career and a Q&A session with audience members.

The Edgerton Center is on the SHU campus at 5151 Park Ave. in Fairfield, just off Merritt Parkway’s Exit 47. It is a wheelchair-accessible venue.

Theater Hall of Fame member

Linda Lavin now is in rehearsal for the upcoming Off-Broadway premiere of “Too Much” at New York City’s Vineyard Theatre. She has been inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.

She has been nominated for Tony Awards for her performances in “Collected Stories,” “The Diary Of Anne Frank,” “Last of the Red Hot Lovers,” “The Lyons” and “The Tale of the Allergist's Wife.”

Also was in 'Barney Miller' and 'The O.C.'

On television, in addition to her role in “Alice,” for which she won two Golden Globe Awards, Lavin had starring roles on “Barney Miller,” “The O.C.” and “Conrad Bloom.” Her most recent television role was the pushy mother of Sean Hayes in NBC’s “Sean Saves the World.”

Lavin and her husband Steve Bakunas, also an entertainer, founded the Red Barn Studio theater in Wilmington, N.C.
