Adopt-a-Sailor seeks help for deployed sailors
The National Association of Naval Veterans Port 5 is joining with Molly’s Adopt-a-Sailor to collect donations for sailors aboard the USS Dewey.
The USS Dewey is on deployment with the Carl Vinson Strike Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Port 5 is a veterans post in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport that serves those in the region that served in the U.S. Navy and other military branches.
Molly’s Adopt-a-Sailor is a nonprofit organization that collects every-day items that sailors, soldiers, marines and airmen do not have, and sends them along with cards and letters to their adopted servicemen and women.
Items being collected include personal hygiene products for men and women, snacks (e.g., energy, protein and granola bars), toiletries, and water additives (Gatorade powder, Propel powder, liquid flavor drops).
Deadline for donations is Jan. 3
Donna Breunig is leading this effort with the help of the Port 5 and several Connecticut Navy moms. All items must be collected by Saturday Jan. 3.
Information and drop-off locations can be obtained by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 203-521-6935.
