American Legion seeks Shelton military families to recognize
Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 in Shelton will provide Blue Star Service Banner window decals to Shelton families that have members serving the country during this time of conflict.
Created in 1917, Blue Star Service Banners were a common site during World Wars I and II. Resurrected by the American Legion in 2001, the banner is displayed to show that a family member is currently serving in the armed forces.
Post 16 is compiling a list of Shelton residents with immediate family presently serving in the military who wish to receive a Blue Star Banner. The families will also be given certificates of appreciation as a form of recognition.
Contacting the veterans post
Families wishing a banner should contact Post 16 prior to May 2 by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 203-926-8952 (email is preferred). They should provide the service member’s name, rank and branch of service; their relation to the service member, their name, address, phone number and email address.
Interested families then will be contacted via email or phone with any additional information.
The decals and certificates of appreciation will be handed out during a brief ceremony at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 18 at Post 16, 295 Old Bridgeport Ave.
