Author to talk about ‘Writer’s Toolbox’

Author and longtime creative writing teacher Jamie Cat Callan will be in Shelton to talk about a writing kit she has designed called The Writer's Toolbox.

Callan is slated to come to Written Words Bookstore in Shelton on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. The kit includes a 64-page booklet filled with exercises and instructions that focus on a "right-brain" approach to writing. Sixty exercise sticks to help get stories off the ground, 60 cards fuel creative descriptions and four spinner palettes will help develop unexpected plot twists. For any aspiring writer, this kit is the perfect first step allowing you to be creative while staying productive.

Callan grew up in Connecticut and has taught creative writing at N.Y.U., Fairfield University, Wesleyan University, Yale University and Educational Center for the Arts. Callan is also the author of Bonjour Happiness and French Women Don't Sleep Alone, which has been translated into nine languages and is in its fifth edition.

The event is free and open to the public. Books presented for signing must be purchased from Written Words Bookstore at the White Hills Shopping Center on Route 110, 194 Leavenworth Road.
