Benchmark in Shelton hosts programs for local seniors

Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock in Shelton will host two upcoming programs.

Melissa Charlwood, a physical therapist and doctor of physical therapy, will speak about a physical and occupational therapy program for people with Parkinson’s disease at the monthly American Parkinson Disease Association Support Group on Tuesday, March 17 at 3 p.m.

The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Loud program helps participants enhance sound and articulation by speaking at an exaggerated volume.

Preventing memory loss

On Wednesday, March 18 from 9-11:30 a.m., a program on Building Cognitive Reserve will be presented.

Donna Fedus, gerontologistand founder of Borrow My Glasses, will show people what they can do to protect themselves from memory loss and cognitive slow down.

The March 18 free program is intended for individuals and caregivers, as well as professionals. Social workers can receive two CEU credits.
