Bluegrass, country and folk music to take stage at the Strand
Kimberly Dulka of The All-American Valley General Store in Seymour is planning the next Strand Ole Opry at The Historic Strand Theater in Seymour, assembling the best Bluegrass, country and folk musicians from the area.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Special guests include AJ Jansen, a country singer from Connecticut and Nashville, who has opened for Phil Vaser and James Montgomery, and was just nominated “The Best Country Act” from The New England Music Awards.
Also scheduled to perform is West Virginian native Mike Townsend, who has opened for Gordon Lightfoot, played with Rich Danko from The Band and his songs have been featured at The Woody Guthrie Festival.
“Mike dazzles the audience with his ability to play multiple instruments like the banjo, mandolin, harmonica, guitar, jaw bow, the saw – and even instruments that he made in the Appalachian Mountains as a boy, like the dulcimer,” Dulka said in announcing the event.
Also slated to perform is Southern Rock & Roll band The Fabulous Shedman, whose energy gets the audience to their feet.
Other musical guests include Tim Remaley, John Hoyt, The Ebin-Rose Trio and more.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at The All-American Valley General Store, 16 Bank Street & Columbus St in Seymour, or by phone, 203-828-6442.
The pre-show BBQ Party at the General Store at 5:30 p.m. is $12.95; reservations required. After-party with desserts, coffee and ice-cream will take place at the General Store from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Meet and greet with band members and performers.
