'Book givers' wanted for local World Book Night event

World Book Night U.S., a part of a global campaign to encourage reading, is looking for volunteer book givers.

Half a million free books will be handed out in towns and cities across America all on April 23 by enlisting 25,000 volunteer book lovers to help promote reading by going into their communities and personally handing out specially printed copies to light or non-readers and to those without the means or access to printed books.

Written Words Bookstore has once again applied to be a pick-up location. For a list of the 30 World Book Night U.S. titles and more information, visit World Book Night's web site.

The online application process is currently open for those wishing to become volunteer book givers at www.us.worldbooknight.org. Application deadline is January 25.

Written Words Bookstore will be relocating to the Oakdale Shopping Plaza on Route 110, 482 River Road.

Successfully launched in the U.K. in 2011, World Book Night was first celebrated in the U.S. in 2012, along with Ireland and Germany. The nonprofit organization exists because of the support of thousands of book givers, booksellers, librarians, and supporters who believe in its mission. Authors for the 30 World Book Night U.S. titles have agreed to waive royalties on the World Book Night editions.
