Durante family sponsors fundraiser for Valley Goes Pink

The Durante family of Shelton is sponsoring a community-wide fundraiser brunch as part of the Valley Goes Pink Campaign to benefit The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital.

Anna Durante was diagnosed with breast cancer at her very first, baseline mammogram at age 40. She credits that mammogram with allowing her to catch her breast cancer early.

Anna Durante’s story is an example of this year’s Valley Goes Pink theme “Early Detection Saves Lives.”

At the time of Durante’s diagnosis, Griffin Hospital didn’t have a breast wellness center, so the Durante’s drove from New Haven to Stamford for her treatment.

“It would have been so much easier for me and so much less stress on my family if I could have stayed right here at Griffin,” Durante said.

Her family put its efforts into supporting each other as best they can through each illness and they’ve made it their mission to get the word out about prevention, early diagnosis and finding a cure for breast cancer. As part of that effort, they work to let people know what a great resource the community has in the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness and to take advantage of the services available there.

The brunch will be Sunday, Oct. 5, 11:30 a.m., at Sons of Italy, 73 High Street, Derby. Tickets are $50 and are available at the door or by calling in advance at 203-732-1977.
