Show-and-Tell
Storytime Fridays, July 31 and Aug. 7, 10:30 a.m. Kids listen to stories, sing songs, and participate in a game or experiment. Children are encouraged to bring along an object for show-and-tell. All ages welcome.
Spanish with Sandra
Friday, July 31, 2:45 p.m. Immersion Spanish for three-to five year-olds and their parents in this program using songs, games, story time and other activities. Taught by Sandra Alvarado, a Spanish teacher from Shelton; this free program requires registration and space is limited.
Summer Tree House
Monday, Aug. 3, to Friday, Aug. 14, children can weigh their reading material to earn prizes and reserve a seat at The Greg & Alex Show on Aug. 20.
Time Travel Teen Reading Club
Monday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 14. Teens entering seventh through 12th grade can participate in reading challenges to compete for exciting prizes including a free introductory flight lesson on a small plane donated by Image Aviation. In addition participating teens can reserve a seat at the Mind-reading and Hypnosis Show on Aug. 14.
Marvelous Mondays
Monday, Aug. 3, 4 p.m. Kids ages 3-10 drop in and start the week with assorted challenges including crafts, snacks, games or experiments. No registration is required — the program repeats every 15 minutes. Materials are distributed on a first-come, first- served basis. All projects must be completed in the library and kids bring their finished products home.
Every Day
Monday, Aug. 3, 7 p.m. What would it be like to wake up in a different body and a different life every day? What if the only constant was being in love with the same person? Teens and their parents are invited to discuss David Levithan’s novel Every Day; copies are available, register.
Bouncing Babies & Jumping Beans
Tuesdays, Aug. 4 and 11, 11 a.m. Babies and toddlers (up to age 3) join Miss Marissa for scarves, maracas, stories and bubbles. No registration required.
Toddler Movement
Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 12, 11 a.m. Preschool kids march, dance and play musical instruments with songs and action poems included. For caregivers and kids ages 2-and-a-half to 4 years. Waitlist available.
Parachute Playtime
Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 12, 2:30 p.m. Sing while playing with the library’s giant colorful parachute.
Sparky’s Puppets
Stories in Trees, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2 p.m. Oak, apple, pine, there’s a tree in every tale during this puppet show. Register.
Stories with Danielle
Thursday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m. Guest reader reads to 3 and 4 year-olds with a brief drop-in story session.
First Friday Book Discussion
Friday, Aug. 7, 1 p.m. An Invisible Thread: the true story of an 11 year old panhandler, a busy sales executive, and an unlikely meeting with destiny by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski; books are available at the branch.
Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes
Friday, Aug. 7, 3:30 p.m. Kids ages 7 and older enter the strange world of Goosebumps, watch a classic TV episode about lawn ornaments that may be alive. Registration required.
Magic Tree House Party
Monday, Aug. 10, 5:30 p.m. Children ages 6 and older enjoy activities and snacks inspired by the popular books about Jack and Annie.
Canine Book Buddies
Tuesday, Aug. 11, 3:30 p.m. Children ages 5-10 reserve a 15-minute time slot to read to ZuZu, a standard poodle certified by Therapy Dogs International. Register.
