There's a lot going on in Shelton on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Redeemable bottle and can drive — Held by the Shelton High School Marching Band, Color Guard and Pompons, 9 to 1 p.m. at the SHS bus loop, 120 Meadow Street. All donations go directly to the groups to fund their competitions. For information, call 203-924-2757.

Free family picnic — An event to talk politics and possibly meet elected officials, given by the Shelton Democratic Town Committee, 4-7 p.m. Held at the home of Ralph and Elaine Matto, 88 Audubon Lane. RSVP to Jimmy Tickey at

Annual Block Party — Held at White Hills Fire Company, 2 School Street, Saturday, Aug. 25, 7 p.m. to midnight. Fee — $25 — includes music by Highland Rovers Band, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, salad, water and soda. For more information: 203-929-1749.

5k road race and fun walk — Begins at 9 a.m. Walk or run for all ages, to benefit the Spooner House. Awards given. Food provided by race sponsor Wesley Village. All pre-registered participants will be entered in a drawing for Red Sox, Yankees and Mets tickets. Cost to pre-register is $20; day of the race is $25. Pre-register before Aug. 21 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Race starts and ends at Crosby Commons, 580 Long Hill Avenue. Food available after the race. Drive in movie — Dolphin Tale will be shown at the Riverwalk, 8:30 p.m. Bring refreshments, seating and bug spray. Free. Sponsored by the Shelton Youth Service Bureau.
