Family Day is filled with entertainment and education
Families are invited to Shelton businesses Sunday, Sept. 21, with a day just for them.
Written Words Bookstore and The Giggling Pig art studio are hosting their annual event at the Oakdale Shopping Plaza on River Road from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The event will be filled with a visit from the fire department, Smokey the Bear, authors, magic, and art.
Fire Awareness Education is set from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., courtesy of Shelton Fire Department Companies 1 and 4 and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Two fire trucks will be on hand. There will also be a special appearance from Smokey the Bear.
Eight authors to attend
A group of eight local authors will be on hand, promoting and autographing their books. Authors appearing are Amanda Marrone, Dana Romanello-Flynn, Robin Cannon, Javier Robayo, A.J. Profeta, Jeannine Marie, Evelyn C. North and Tarra Kiamos Andres. Books presented for signing must be purchased on Family Day from the authors and Written Words.
Professional magician Chris Lengyel from Freakout Entertainment will perform for the children from 1-2 p.m. Lengyel has been featured on television, newspapers, and a host of other media outlets.
Crafts, nail painting, beading
The Giggling Pig is celebrating its move to a new, larger space and will be offering paper crafts, nail painting, beading, and snacks and juice for the kids. There will also be a raffle for a gift basket.
Written Words will be offering impromptu story time and other hands-on activities.
The event is free. There will be some cost for certain activities. Written Words and The Giggling Pig are at 482 and 472 River Road (Route 110).
