GE employees team up for Habitat ‘blitz’ in Bridgeport
Hundreds of GE employees from Fairfield and Shelton have been volunteering on a large-scale Habitat for Humanity build, known as the "GE Habitat Blitz."
Donning purple GE volunteer shirts and hard hats, employees from GE's corporate divisions are helping to erect two new houses for low-income families in Bridgeport on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m.
The volunteers will meet at the Habitat Warehouse at 1542 Barnum Ave. The new homes are being built on Berkshire and Kossuth streets, one of which is for a former GE employee.
Since 1995, GE volunteers have been the key resource in the building of 22 Habitat for Humanity homes in Bridgeport. The Habitat Blitz, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield, is GE's lead-in activity to its annual United Way Campaign, which begins Monday, Oct. 15. GE's volunteer activities focus in the areas of health, education, environment and community building.
